One of the product leadership groups at Sage had been brought together rather quickly and was under a lot of stress to deliver.
That meant they all fell back on on their craft rather than working together as well as they could.
I ran a workshop using the LEGO® Serious Play® method to help them to shape a common understanding of what a successful product would look like and what each of their departments contributed to it.
The result was a much better understanding of each other’s areas and challenges to get to a better product.
Individual models of a successful product
A well-built and sturdy (internet) tower built by craftspeople with the goal in sight.
A delivery vehicle that fits the boundaries and scope to deliver delight to users and reach the big £ sign (the green bricks).
A neatly structured and self-sufficient home with great functionalities and a solid fence to keep the sharks (competition) away.
A simple, solid product that can hold the prize (the cake).
The combined successful product in context
The individual models were combined to a single, combined vision of a successful product and put in context of detractors, supports and enablers and how much impact they have on the success on the team’s ability to deliver a great product (indicated by distance to the model representing the successful product).
