To counter local accountant software with better, and better looking, interfaces, Sage was ramping up their design capacity.
There was already a VP of SMB in place, and I was hired as the VP for the designers working on the mid-market and enterprise products (Sage X3, Sage Financials, Sage People, Sage Accountant Cloud, Sage 50, Sage 200 and Sage 300.)
Over time I also formalised grass roots initiatives such as the Career Framework, Design System and global experience elements such as single-sign-on in one cross-product team called “Core Experience”.
At Sage I managed 50 people, UX Designers, Solution Designers, Content Designers and Product Owners spread across UK, France, South Africa, Holland, Spain, USA, Canada and Austria either as fully office-based or fully remote. The experience of managing remote workers would come in handy when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
